Okay, so this book review is just a bit different from the one Abby previously did, but I promise, it's a good one. :)
So, in my English class we are currently learning about the Civil Rights movements back in 1955 to 1968. We were assigned to read the book A Mighty Long Way, and know I'm here to share it with you!
Alright. So, the book is based upon the life of Carlotta Walls LaNier, who is one of the nine Little Rock students who integrated from an all black school to an all white school back in September 3, 1957 (and that would make her 14 at the time). She shares her frightening story of integrating, and how it affected her along with her eight friends. But, getting into the school was harder then it normally should be. When they step foot on the grounds of Central High School, angry mobs and riots break loose filled with segregationists. National Guard is called, and is ordered to keep them out rather then let them in, even though the nine students had permission to go in. They do get in, and they do get the education deserved, along with generations to come. So, if your interested in a historical type book, and civil rights, then read this! I really enjoyed reading about her stories, and how she got through what she was put through.
Just to add, she gave a speech to many schools around my community, including mine. I am so thankful that I was able to hear her speak to us!
♥If you have already read it, how did you enjoy it?
Read it! Could be better.... Awful
